History of EDAR

The Environmental Dimension of Antimicrobial Resistance (EDAR) conference series was initiated in 2012 by Professor Edward Topp in Montebello, Canada, to specifically address the role of the environment in AMR. It is now the largest international scientific meeting focusing specifically on this critical aspect of AMR.

The conferences are held approximately every two years, rotating among North America, Asia, Europe, and now Australia in 2026 to foster global collaboration and knowledge exchange. Following the inaugural conference, subsequent EDAR meetings have been hosted in various countries:

  • EDAR2: China

  • EDAR3: Germany

  • EDAR4: United States

  • EDAR5: Denmark

  • EDAR6: Sweden

  • EDAR7: Canada

The EDAR conferences have significantly contributed to integrating environmental considerations into the One Health framework, emphasizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health in combating AMR.
