SAAFE Scholars Program

As a SAAFE PhD scholar, you’ll join a cohort of emerging leaders and regulators from industry and government who will implement AMR solutions and best practice.

SAAFE PhD Scholars are enrolled with one of our research partners, working alongside experts in AMR monitoring, analytics and solutions. You’ll be part of the wider SAAFE community, attend our annual summit and engage with our partners. Funding is available to ensure you can develop yourself not only as a researcher, but as a future leader in AMR.

How do I become a SAAFE Scholar?

You’ll apply for one of the SAAFE-approved projects through the relevant university. As part of the application process, you’ll meet with SAAFE’s Education and Training Manager to find out more about the Scholars Program and the benefits of being part of the SAAFE community. The SAAFE scholarship will be paid to you directly as a living allowance by your enrolling university.

What do I get out of being a SAAFE Scholar?

In addition to the competitive PhD living allowance and dedicated professional development funds, the SAAFE Scholars Program is designed to offer and promote training to build your skills and experience across three main areas:

  • Communication
  • Futurism
  • Transdisciplinary capabilities

You’ll be invited to online and in-person training and community engagement activities, including the annual SAAFE Summit and residential research methods course. You will also spend time with project partners, receive peer mentoring and invites to regular catch-ups with other SAAFE Scholars and our Foundation Postdoctoral Fellows, to build your community connections.

To help you get the most out of our bespoke training framework, you’ll meet with SAAFE’s Education and Training Manager a couple of times each year during your PhD to share your development plans and grow your experience through the Scholars Program.

Are there any expectations or requirements of Scholars?

We want your time as a SAAFE Scholar to enhance not only your PhD experience, but help you plan for and build the skills you need to emerge as a future leader in AMR.

We encourage you take advantage of this by joining various online and in-person activities as often as you can. You’ll also present your research at the annual SAAFE Summit.

To ensure you’re on track, you and your supervisor will be asked to provide project progress updates. You’ll also complete an annual development plan and report, via the SAAFE project reporting portal.
